Germany Trip, Day 12

Today is more somber
In this morning's class we covered the homework (als/wenn) and relative pronouns (Thank you Herr T.)
This afternoon our trip was to the KZ-Gedenkstätte Schwäbisch Hall-Hessental that is, the Concentration Camp Memorial.
Memorial is located adjacent to the train station maybe 200 yards from the building. The memorial consists of several signs located on the grounds of the former camp, with the locations of the buildings outlined (there are no buildings standing).

Words aren't really necessary

Part of our class. We had a guided tour of the memorial.

I don't know if this particular car was actually used in transporting the Nazi's victims, but it was in service during that time.

Box car used to transport human beings

The memorial contains wooden stiles with plaques commerating the victims here.

I counted our last name (surname) 5 times on the stiles

That would be the same as Dad's name

And all of this went on close to a railroad station.
I do have to say that the Germans of today are not the Germans of the 'Thousand Year Reich'. They acknowedge the past and seem to genuinely abhor the National Socialists.

In some ways, I am glad I did not go on this trip. I broke down when I saw the name plate on the post. Next week will be really somber, as you call it.
