The Brucemobile is back

If you didn't know, the engine on my 1991 Geo Tracker blew up two weeks ago, threw a rod through the block. As much as I love my Grand Vitara, the Geo gets about 33% better milage around town and I don't mind as much parking it at the Shipyard. I was able to have a used motor installed and the Brucemobile is back on the road. Still need to fill the tank, though...sigh!
Notice how nice the irises look!

Happy Passover

חג פסח שמח

First Seder last night, it is so nice to sit at a beautifully set table. Two different kosher wines, chicken soup with matzoh balls, hard boiled egg, gefilte fish, lamb steak with potatoes and broccoli. And of course MATZOH!! I always liked matzoh since I was a kid, which makes Passover my favorite holiday. My mother doesn't much care for it, so we didn't have it in the house year round (Grandma did). I still remember the Shapiro wine dad brought home from the winery on the lower east side. Malaga, like drinking cough syrup.

Washington Nationals' Park

We drove up to DC for the day to watch a game at the Nationals' new ballpark. The park is located off the Anacostia River not far from the Navy Yard. We took advantage of the free parking and shuttle bus at RFK stadium.

Nationals Park has several interesting features. The outfield is not symmetrical and has some odd angles on the outfield walls. I liked the two tiered bar - Red Loft & Red Porch out in left center and the picture on the big screen is phenomonal. Another interesting feature is the 'closed caption' for the public address system. A display over the visitor's bullpen in left field displayed the text of the PA announcements. Reminded me of the supertext at the opera.
The view from the stands is not what it could have been. There is a lot of construction and the notable DC sights are mostly blocked from view.
The food was ok, fair variety. I had the 1/2 lb burger platter (burger & fries) overpriced at $11, but what else is new, this is an MLB venue. the grilled chicken sandwich combo seemed a better value at $7. Tap beer was $7.50 with mixed drinks offered at $8 & $12. Margaritas and bottle beer were also available.

More from last week

Some pics of the new stadium taking shape accross 161st Street.

Just got back from New York last night. Was at the Yankees-Rays game which really sucked. Yanks lost 6-3. Their bats are still sleeping. The weather was awesome and it was so good seeing our tailgate friends again. I made a stuffed tenderloin. Enjoyed listening to the game on the way home, a gem pitched by Wang with a stellar performance by Joba 2-0 Yanks win.

Dad is about the same, they won't let him stay in his room alone, he falls when he tries to go from the chair to the bed.
